Webinar to mark Sister Nivedita's arrival in India in 1898Discussions on Sister Nivedita's interpretations of Indian Festivals and Astronomical implications of the prime festivals like Makara Sankranti, Ratha Yatra, Kumbh Mela etc..
28 January, the day Nivedita landed on the soil of India was celebrated in 2025 by RKSM SNHM & KC with a Webinar on ‘Puja-Parvan: Nivedita O Vijnaner drishti te’ through Google Meet from 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm. The programme started with an Opening Song by a Brahmacharini of Sri Sarada Math.
Pravrajika Asheshaprana ji then shared how Nivedita described in detail the spirit of Indian rituals and festivals in her works especially the ‘Studies from an Eastern Home’. She read Nivedita’s subtle description of the Sarasvati Puja and Dol festival.
This was followed by the astro-mathematical explanation of the Indian rituals and festivals by Dr Sushan Konar (Scientist, NCRA-TIFR, Pune). She beautifully explained in a simplified manner how and why India has Solar, Lunar and Solar-Lunar Calendars, the truth behind 25 December being celebrated as the birthday of Jesus Christ, the concept of Makara-Karka Sankranti, Uttarayana-Dakshinayana, Rashi or zodiac signs and even the date and timing of the Kumbha Mela through PPT slides. 43 participants attended this webinar.
